PAC Meeting Notes for Monday, January 5, 2010

Treasurer’s Report: Our current balance is $6,819.34. This doesn’t include the December Market Day deposit.

Nature Center: The spring plan is to have the Apple Creek YMCA provide classes on Earth Day in April.

Market Day: December profit was $1,063.36 with Cookie Dough Sales. The pizza and cookie party date has not been set yet but should take place in January.

Conference Meals: The meal idea for February 18th is a Potato Bar. A sign up list will be ready to be passed around at the next meeting. Contact Dawn VanWychen or Michelle Wagner to help.

Brain Bowl: Mrs. Elrick has the dates set: January 19 the notes will go home, February 9 the pledges will be due, February 16 will be the testing day and March 2 the money will be due. The proceeds will go towards classroom needs from the wish list.

Sock Hop/School Dance: February 5 (Friday) 6:00 – 7:30 pm with a DJ. We will collect Food Pantry items at the door in exchange for raffle prize tickets. Tickets will be sold for the same price as last year. There was a suggestion to have something for the 1st graders and younger to do in the Multi Purpose room. Ideas were bubble wrap on the floor with a CD player for them to dance. The Gym is too loud and overwhelming for the younger children. Melissa will check on getting the bubble wrap. Mrs. Czech approved using part of the Multi Purpose room for this.

Family Fun Night: April 9th or 16th to have a Bingo Night in the cafeteria. We could have National Honor Society students help out with face painting and other activities. We will discuss more of this at the next meeting.

Teacher/Classroom Wish List: Staff can update this book at any time. Stephanie will start shopping for items left on the list and PAC will use the web site to generate donations for classrooms. Subway Cards: We are still checking into this and will discuss more at the next meeting.

PAC Membership: We discussed the confusion people have about PAC—everyone with children in the district is a member, meeting attendance is not required to be a part of PAC. Ideas like a bulletin board for the school lobby to educate people about PAC were discussed. People shared that they are part of PAC for various reasons, including: a desire to meet other parents in the community, a desire to know more about our school, a belief in the importance of volunteering in PTA/PTO groups, and enjoying PAC activities. We discussed how to relay this information to other parents in our school and how we can encourage more active PAC membership.

Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 6:30-8:00 in room 22 (Art Room).  Patsy Dennis will present Back to School Kits. Babysitting is provided by Freedom High School National Honor Society students during the meeting. Connie Wheeler, PAC Vice President
