Freedom Elementary School PAC Meeting Notes November 1, 2010

Treasurer’s Report:  We currently have $12,436.00 in our account.


Nature Center: The work day was canceled due to the weather and rescheduled to trim the brush and trees.  Mrs. Meller will help the 5th grade work on getting the bark on the trails.  The Butterfly garden has been updated with more plants and bark.  If more help is needed, Mrs. Meller will send information home with students.


Fall Flag Football: PAC earned $500 from the concessions they provided each Saturday.  We decided that next year we should provide more baked goods since they sold out quickly and were popular items.  We also need to schedule more volunteers to assist with the bake sales in the future.  Some ideas for getting more baked goods included having them dropped off Friday and brought home by someone and returned to school Saturday morning.  Depending on whether the YMCA or the Freedom Irish Football team organizes next year’s league, it may be easier to get workers to sign up.  Someone will contact the Park & Rec and ask about the concessions trailer used at last summer’s soccer tournament.  Thank you, Wendy Cropsey, for organizing each week.  Thank you to all who supported the PAC.


Teacher/Classroom Wish List:  Wish List book will be located in the office.  If the teachers have additional requests that their $100 doesn’t cover, they can fill out a form that PAC has designed and present it to the PAC.

Parent/Teacher Conferences Meal: Michelle Wagner had plenty of people sign up to help serve the staff.


Sock Hop:  Tentatively scheduled for Friday, February 4th.  More details to come.

Brain Bowl: February 8th – 10th for grades Pre-K through 2nd grade.  Details to come in January.

AVON: Estimated profit is $4100.00.  Thank you for your support.

Market Day:  Market Day profit for October was $162.12.  November is Dessert Bonus Days so get your Holiday pies.  If we sell 100 desserts, we will earn 30% compared to the usual 15%.  If you would like to donate a pie to the Freedom Food Pantry for their Christmas Dinner, order it with your regular order and at the time of pick up place your donated pie on the designated table and we will deliver it for you.


Apparel Store Online: Go to the School website, click on School Store, click on the featured link and there you may choose the Elementary School.  Youth and adult sizes are available to order.  The designated school makes 60% on each sale.

Family Fun Night: We are looking into having a Comedy Night on Friday, March 25th from 6:30-8:00.  More details to follow.


Artist in Residence: Madison artist Sharon Kilfoy will come in for 2 weeks in March 2011 to work with the classrooms.  PAC has earmarked $5,000 to fund this opportunity for our school.  Mrs. Rudolph is working with a group of parents to coordinate this event.


Winter Book Fair for Staff: Stephanie Piepenberg will shop for used books for classrooms using $200 of the December Market Day profit.  In January or February staff can pick any of these books for their classroom libraries.

Back to School/Open House/School Registration: We discussed some of the frustrations with the beginning of the school year, including the paperwork students bring home at the end of the first day, school pictures being taken during the school day, having multiple scheduled events and how hard it is for students to bring all their supplies to school the first day since they won’t fit in their backpacks.  We shared how other schools handle back to school registration/open houses, including how the high school and middle school do it.  Melissa will type up a summary of the suggestions for the next meeting.

Help Needed: Mrs. Bakken needs assistance in labeling and shelving books in the Guided Reading Book Room.  This job will take approximately 5 hours total and can be done anytime during the school day by a parent volunteer.  There is no deadline, so a volunteer can schedule this at their leisure.  If you can help with this project, please contact Melissa Westemeier.
