The committee sign up sheet was passed around again. We are still looking for a chairperson for the Family Fun event.
The May 16th PAC meeting is now changed to May 2nd due to a schedule conflict with the 1st and 2nd grade concerts.
News from Mrs. Lipsey= The week of November 16th is National Education Week. Our building will be open to the public Wednesday, November 18th for people to tour Freedom Elementary School. Tours will be held every 30 minutes from 8am-11am. Mrs. Lipsey is looking for about 6 volunteers to assist with check-in, keeping groups together, etc. This will be published in the newsletter as well as in the Freedom Pursuit.
The 4th grade teachers would like to purchase a science kit that they believe can be replicated. Some of the items in the kit would be consumable. PAC agreed to purchase kit.
Treasurer’s report= $8401.48 was the last balance. Recently, Mrs. Rudolph used her $300 bringing the total to $8101.48. $1,600 is outstanding from money set aside for science carts/nonconsumeables ($1,000-4th grade, $100-3rd grade and $500-5th grade). An additional $3,500 is set aside for whatever may be needed in the future.
Staff meeting=PAC attended the staff meeting held today and provided them with ice cream sundaes and information about PAC. Erin Lenhardt provided a copy of the reimbursement guidelines to the PAC members for possible review at a future meeting.
Paper recycling drive=Three bins were collected. We are still waiting to hear the amount of money made. December 21st-January 4th will be the next drive.
AVON= So far, approximately 96 families ordered (with more order forms coming in). Last year it was around 114. Orders are still coming in online as well.
Cookie dough fundraiser= Michelle Gloudemans announced forms will be sent home this week or early next week. It runs Monday, October 26th-Wednesday, November 11th. Students will receive coupons for bonus prizes (3 boxes= a keychain, 5 boxes=a stuffed animal, etc.). More prizes will be given at the time of cookie distribution according to sales. We discussed the need for people to know they have to pick up the dough the night of distribution, or it will be donated.
Outdoor playground shed update= Construction has started. Within the next month, both sheds should be completed. The Boy Scouts are building them to earn an Eagle Scout badge.
Fall student appreciation= It was well received and we have a lot of thank you cards from students to show for it!
Teacher wish list table/binder for conferences= Cindy Taft proposed changing the procedure for displaying the requests, suggesting we list them on the district webpage with a link to PAC. Mrs. Lipsey suggested a bulletin board near the office with pockets with the teacher’s names and wish lists.
Parent teacher conference meals for November 11th and 12th= Michelle Wagner has the helping hands list and will notify those who have volunteered to help.
Plastic bag recycling will occur November 15th– April 15th. We will be receiving two bins soon which will be placed in the lobby area. A flyer explaining recycling guidelines was distributed at the meeting. The flyer and magnet will be sent out to students as we get closer to the date.
Holiday gift shop= Friday, December 4th 3:30-6, and Saturday, December 5th 9-12. More volunteers will be asked to help this year. We agree that setting up a few hours before it starts will be a big time saver.
New speed sign request= An accident in front of school brought up the topic of flashers for the speed sign in front of school. The total cost would be $5,000. The school district asked PAC if they would contribute half of the cost, or whatever they felt appropriate. The district was asking because this cost was not figured into this year’s budget. The committee majority voted “no” for any funding to come from PAC at this time.
Teacher requests= Mrs. DeGroot and Mrs. Zabel would like electric pencil sharpeners. Some specialty teachers said they did not receive the forms for teacher requests. There may have been a miscommunication. We plan to let specialty teachers know that the sharpener requests are open to them as well.
New business?= There was no new business.
The next PAC meeting is on Nov. 16th at 6:00 pm in Room 22 (Art room). Free babysitting is provided by the Freedom High School National Honor Society. Please come join us!
