Meeting Notes April 12, 2010

Treasurer’s Report: We currently have $7,377.07 in our account.

Family Fun/Bingo Game Night: Friday, April 16th in the Elementary School Cafeteria from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm included snacks and prizes for all the winners. Everyone had a great time at this event! Great work, Carol Hennes (whose voice must still be sore from calling Bingo spots all night long!) Carrie Witt, Jen DeBraal and Andrea Schwaller for organizing this fun night. Also, thanks to Cindy Konkle for donating a huge bag of stuffed animals that had “never been loved.” Lots of kids love them now!
PAC agreed to allow Dee Speigel to sell raffle tickets to raise money for a Smart Board for Mrs. Pendleton’s 2nd grade classroom during this event.

Nature Center: The schedule is out to the teachers and will be held April 26th, 27th and 28th with 35 classes attending Environmental Awareness Day with the YMCA instructors.

Market Day: March profit was $178.91 and will be allocated to the Guided Reading Incentive. If you would like to submit a testimonial, please contact either Amy Lahay or Connie Wheeler. The month of May will be our last order for this school year so stock up for the summer. Thank you for all of your support this year and we will be back in September.

Administration Assistant Week: Carrie Witt ordered flowers from Dawn’s for our wonderful administration staff the week of April 19th. Thank you for all the hard work you do for all of us.

Student Appreciation Day: Carol Hennes will get popsicles ordered and set a date.

Staff Appreciation: This will be the week of May 3rd – 7th. If you are interested in contributing a food item, please contact Michelle Wagner. She passed around a sign up sheet—PAC will provide muffins/breakfast, desserts & dips with finger food on 3 different days. We thank all of our wonderful teachers here at Freedom Elementary.

Recognitions: No one is retiring, so we will recognize the 4th and 5th grade Student Council this year with all their help with Hall Monitoring the Kindergarten classes and their help with Market Day. Thank you for all your hard work.

Fifth Grade Celebration: Thursday, June 3rd at 1:00 pm in the school cafeteria. Cake, juice and water will be served after the ceremony. The committee met after our meeting to plan this event.

Teacher/Classroom Wish List: We had a long discussion about the Teacher/Classroom Wish List and the logistics with it. There is concern about teacher’s needs being met, the continued cuts in classroom budgets, miscommunication about classroom requests, and PAC’s desire to be equitable towards teachers. Suggested solutions involve keeping the status quo, making clearer deadlines for wish list purchases, and/or providing each classroom a set amount of money. We looked at some examples of the perimeters other school PTAs set for Teacher Wish Lists and highlighted what we liked best. Someone suggested that PAC no longer purchase consumable goods and begin labeling with stickers or stamps PAC donations to teachers and classrooms to highlight our efforts and publicize more all that we provide the district. Melissa said she’d talk to her husband about his company printing some up. People suggested we even give them to teachers to label what PAC bought for classrooms this year. One person suggested that “If you can’t put a sticker on it, maybe PAC shouldn’t buy it,” which made sense. PAC agreed that parents can be called upon to provide consumable items for various classrooms—like facial tissues, snacks and Purell. Melissa will bring a mock up of a new Teacher/Classroom Wish List form for us to discuss at our May meeting.

PAC Logo: We looked at a few samples that will be digitalized for the May meeting.

Fundraisers for Next Year: We will not do a Used Book Sale or Perennial Sale since some other area organizations are already doing them. We will continue with the AVON fundraiser, Brain Bowl and Market Day.

Library Inventory Help: Mrs. Zabel is looking for volunteers to help with inventory of books during the last week of school. If you could spare a few hours please contact Mrs. Zabel.

Facebook: We are now on Facebook so go check it out and join the group. Michelle Wagner set this up and will be taking care of it. She will post events coming up and if anyone wants to get to know other parents, this could be a good way. Search: Freedom Elementary P.A.C. (Parents Activity Committee).

Our final meeting for the 2009-2010 school year will be Thursday, May 6th at 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm in the Art Room #22. Free babysitting is available during the meeting. Afterwards we will have Post-Meeting Wrap-Up at Buzz’s Bowl. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Melissa Westemeier at 687-1671.
